What is tadalafil used for?

TADALAFIL (Cialis®) can be prescribed for patients diagnosed with erectile dysfunction. This drug works by dilating the blood vessels in the penis allowing more blood to flow into it, ensuring a stable erection. Thus, tadalafil does not enhance sexual desire and certain stimulation is required. Cialis is intended only foe men diagnosed with . Tadalafil does not cure ED or increase a man's sexual desire. Tadalafil is only for men with ED and is not for women or children. Tadalafil should only be used under a healthcare provider's care.

What should I inform my doctor about before taking this drug?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

• diabetes
  
• Peyronie's disease, anatomical deformity of the penis, or a history of priapism (an abnormally long and painful erection)
  
• frequent heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  
• any allergies, especially an allergy to the active ingredient of this medicine and any other drugs and products
  
• sickle cell disease
  
• a history of a stroke
  
• bleeding disorder
  
• kidney disease, if you are planning a dialysis
  
• pregnancy or breastfeeding
  
• high cholesterol
  
• HIV infection
  
• eye problems that you inherited or developed
  
• heart problems, such as heart disease, chest pain, a history of a heart attack or irregular heart beats
  
• high or low blood pressure
  
• liver disease
  
• stomach or intestinal ulcers
  

How should I take this medicine?

Tadalafil tablets need to be taken orally with a full glass of water. It's generally recommended to take this drug 30 to 60 minutes before having sex, but your doctor's recommendations may be different. The tablet must not be crushed or chewed to make sure the drug is released only when it reaches your stomach. Do not alter your dosage of tadalafil without previously discussing it with your health care provider. In case of having certain health conditions you may not be able to take tadalafil or your dose will need to be adjusted. You are unlikely to be on a dosing schedule when taking this medicine, so if you miss a dose you do not need to worry about making up for it.

This drug is not intended for children and should not be given to them.

What are tadalafil storage conditions?

This medicine has to be kept out of the reach of children and other persons that do not have a prescription. Keep it in a tightly closed container.

Tadalafil is to be stored at the temperature of 59 to 86 degrees F. If there is any medicine left after your treatment and it is expired throw it away.

Are there any drug interactions with Tadalafil?

If you are taking the following drugs using Tadalafil is not recommended:

• nitroglycerin-based drugs, including, for example, nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, or amyl nitrite, no matter how often you have to take them

Interactions of Tadalafil with some of the following drugs have been reported:

alpha blockers used for the treatment of an enlarged prostate and high blood pressure. The following medicines that belong to this group are most often prescribed: terazosin (Hytrin®), prazosin (Minipress®), alfuzosin (UroXatral®), doxazosin (Cardura®).

• cimetidine
• bosentan
• verapamil
• antibiotics: erythromycin, clarithromycin, troleandomycin
• medicine prescribed for patients that have seizures, such as phenobarbital, phenytoin and carbamazepine
• diltiazem
• mibefradil
• drugs to treat fungal infections, such as itraconazole, fluconazole, voriconazole, ketoconazole
• cisapride
• HIV or AIDS medication
• nicardipine
• rifabutin, rifampin
• quinidine
• depression and anxiety medication, including fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and nefazodone
• grapefruit juice

Before you ask your doctor for the prescription he needs to know everything about your health condition and any other medicines you are currently using. This is important as Tadalafil has been reported to interact with a number of other drugs that can increase, decrease or alter its effects. If you often drink alcohol, smoke, use illicit drugs or consume caffeine-containing products make sure you mention these facts to your doctor as they can also affect the efficiency of your treatment.

What should be reported to the doctor?

in very rare cases Tadalafil has been reported to cause certain vision problems in people taking it. If you experience sudden vision loss in one or both eyes stop taking the medicine and seek emergency medical assistance.

If your erection lasts longer than normal and becomes painful contact your doctor immediately. This condition is called priapism and may result in the permanent damage of the tissues of your penis.

The following symptoms are very serious and you need to seek urgent medical assistance in case of experiencing them: dizziness, nausea, chest pain or arm pain. Make sure you describe your symptoms in detail when talking to your doctor.

Combining Tadalafil with alcoholic drinks (more than 5 glasses of wine) can worsen some of its side effects, make you dizzy, lower your blood pressure and increase the heart rate. It's best to avoid simultaneous use of alcohol and this medicine.

The dose of your medicine can be changed only by your prescriber or health care provider. Do not try to adjust the dose yourself as this can lead to an overdose.

While taking Tadalafil you can still get some sexually transmitted disease, which is why it's recommended to use a condom and avoid casual sex.

What are Tadalafil side effects?

The following side effects should be reported as soon as possible no matter how intense or bothersome they appear to be:

• dizziness
• eyelid swelling
• hearing changes (ringing in the ears, sudden loss of hearing)
• chest pain or rapid heart beat
• vision changes (blurred vision, trouble telling the difference between green and blue color, increased eye sensitivity)
• shortness of breath, trouble breathing
• prolonged and painful erection
• skin rash, itching

Some less serious side effects that need to be reported to your health care provider only if they change in intensity or become bothersome include:

• stuffy or runny nose
• flushing
• headache
• back pain
• indigestion
• muscle aches
