What is sildenafil used for?

SILDENAFIL (Viagra®) is used to treat erection problems in men.

What should I inform my doctor about before taking this drug?

Tell your doctor if you have any of these health conditions:

• diabetes
• high cholesterol
• kidney or liver disease
• stomach problems, including frequent heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease
• an allergy to the active ingredient of this medicine, as well as any other products
• stomach ulcer, intestinal ulcer
• cancer
• benign prostatic hypertrophy
• bleeding disorder
• high or low blood pressure, a history of heart attack, heart disease, chest pain, or other heart problems
• anatomical deformity of the penis, priapism (an abnormally long and painful erection), or Peyronie's disease
• a history of a stroke
• sickle cell disease
• inherited vision problems, for example, retinitis pigmentosa (a serious inherited eye disease)
• pregnancy or breastfeeding

How should I take this medicine?

Sildenafil tablets should be taken by mouth with a full glass of water approximately 60 minutes before you are planning to have sex. Avoid using more than one tablet every 24 hours.

The tablet works by dissolving under your tongue. Take the dosage prescribed by your health care provider form 30 to 6 minutes before sexual activity. Certain medical conditions, such as kidney or liver disease, may affect the efficiency of sildenafil or cause serious health consequences. Do not double the dose you are prescribed as this is not going to make your treatment more effective. If you are taking this drug you are unlikely to be on any kind of dosing schedule

What are Viagra Soft storage conditions?

This medicine needs to be kept out of the reach of children. Make sure you do not share it with people to whop it was not prescribed.

This medicine is to be stored at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F. You must not take this drug past its expiration date to avoid serious health consequences.

Are there any drug interactions with sildenafil?

Do not start the treatment if you are using any of the medicines mentioned below:

• nitroglycerin-based medicines for chest or heart pain:
  • amyl nitrite,
  • isosorbide dinitrate,
  • isosorbide mononitrate,
  • or nitroglycerin,
  even though you may be taking them occasionally

Interaction of sildenafil with the following drugs is also possible:

alpha blockers used for the treatment of high blood pressure and an enlarged prostate. At least 4 hours should pass between a dosage of sildenafil that exceeds 25 mg and any of the following: alfuzosin (UroXatral®), doxazosin (Cardura®), tamsulosin (Flomax®), terazosin (Hytrin®) or prazosin (Minipress®).

• arsenic trioxide
• chloroquine
• cisapride
• diltiazem
• nicardipine
• verapamil
• pentamidine
• methadone
• pimozide
• seizures medicines, including phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbital
• heart rhythm medicine (amiodarone, flecainide, quinidine, dofetilide, procainamide, disopyramide, sotalol, ibutilide, propafenone
• bosentan
• rifabutin, rifampin, or rifapentine
• HIV or AIDS medicines
• drugs that belong to the group of antibiotics, including clarithromycin, erythromycin, sparfloxacin, troleandomycin
• fungal infection medicine (fluconazole, ketoconazole, voriconazole, itraconazole)
• drugs for the treatment of depression, including drugs prescribed for patients suffering from mood changes (amoxapine, fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, tricyclic antidepressants, maprotiline, nefazodone, pimozide, phenothiazines,)
• grapefruit juice

Before your doctor gives you the prescription he needs to know about any other drugs you are taking at the moment. People who smoke, often drink alcohol, enjoy coffee and other products containing caffeine, as well as those using illicit drugs need to tell the doctor about it. Your dosage and the success of the treatment depend on how open you are about any of your habits and conditions that can make sildenafil less effective.

What should be reported to the doctor?

If you notice any changes in your vision while taking this drug, notify your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible. Stop using sildenafil right away if you have a loss of sight in one or both eyes. Contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Contact you physician immediately if the erection lasts longer than 4 hours or if it becomes painful. This may be a sign of priapism and must be treated immediately to prevent permanent damage.

If you experience symptoms of nausea, dizziness, chest pain or arm pain upon initiation of sexual activity after sildenafil use, you should refrain from further activity and should discuss the episode with your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible.

Do not change the dose of your medication. Please call your prescriber or health care professional to determine if your dose needs to be reevaluated.

Using Viagra® (sildenafil) does not protect you or your partner against HIV infection (the virus that causes AIDS) or other sexually transmitted diseases.

What are sildenafil side effects?

The following side effects should be reported as soon as possible in spite of their intensity:

• skin rash, itching
• eyelid swelling
• dizziness
• loss of hearing or ringing in ears
• chest pain, back pain
• muscle aches
• prolonged painful erection (lasting for longer than 4 hours)
• trouble breathing, shortness of breath
• vision changes, such as blurred vision, increased eye sensitivity, trouble telling the difference between blue and green

Some less serious side effects that need to be reported to your health care provider only if they change in intensity or become bothersome include:

• headache
• indigestion
• flushing
• nausea
• stuffy nose
